A classic Georgian façade on Highgate High Street conceals this Gail’s artisan bakery where years of previous alterations have been stripped back to reveal the building’s character.
A constrained site, the concept began by investigating how to take advantage of the irregular layout with its low ceilings, to create intimate spaces for seating whilst providing curated, layered views through to the kitchen.
The interiors expose much of the building’s original timber structure and steel supports which have been harmonised by painting them a uniform colour to add touch of modernity. Simple joinery, a muted colour palette and hand crafted ceramic lighting by Polysmiths complete the look.
The original shopfront featuring three large glazed bay windows has also been refurbished, and is now complemented by bespoke outdoor benches made by the Goldfinger Factory.
