The property forms part of a larger purpose built residential development called Sanctuary Mews in a Hackney conservation area, on a constrained site overlooked on all sides.
Our challenge was to create a modern family home, with open plan kitchen, dining and living space, and private study leading onto a courtyard garden.
A small extension to the rear created the additional space to satisfy the brief, whilst a combination of sliding doors and a large curtain provide privacy when required.
A new structural opening spans the entire rear wall, meaning that the sliding glass doors can be fully opened to connect the living spaces and small garden during the summer months. The floor has been finished in the same style throughout to enhance the sense that the space functions as one.
Upstairs the bathroom has been revitalised, and natural light now spills down the stair through large roof lights into the hallway below.
