Knights Hall

The refurbishment of a popular local community centre, Knights Hall, plays a pivotal role in this homes-led mixed-use scheme in south London. Our scheme looks to regenerate a tired section of the high street to provide high-quality homes and commercial space for a local business, whilst ensuring the future retention of a popular and much-loved Victorian public hall where Charlie Chaplin once performed!

An important asset for the local community, Knights Hall has been providing entertainment to local people since its construction in 1885. Our building pulls back on one corner to provide a generous and much-improved entrance to a refurbished hall creating safe, well-lit access for local residents and better integrating the centre with the town.

The design references the material palette and language of the local period architecture, with pigmented concrete banding used to complement the red stock brick detailing that frames large glazed openings which will fill the residential units with natural daylight and minimise the need for artificial lighting.

The development will also provide ground floor retail and 8 generously proportioned, dual aspect apartments set over 6 storeys to help revitalise this end of the high street. Each home enjoys a private balcony and access to a shared rooftop garden offering far-reaching panoramic views of the city and enhancing the site’s bio-diversity with extensive planting for pollinators.
