The First Shop in the World

Greenwich is a long-established neighbourhood steeped in maritime and astrological history. Its rich heritage is felt in classical buildings such as the Old Royal Naval College and the Royal Observatory.

Billed as “the first shop in the world” due to its proximity to the Meridian line, our newest opening for artisan bakery Gail’s is based in a grade II listed, curved fronted former shop in the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site.

“Our design aimed to create a space that sat comfortably within this grand, historical context whilst creating a light & bright, modern neighbourhood bakery. The warm heritage colour palate, rich stained timber skirting and joinery elements are paired with lightly painted wall panelling and folded stainless steel kitchen counter. Refined timber furniture sits amongst playful curved details to the wall panelling and openings which take reference from clock mechanisms.”
